REMEDIKA HOSPITAL | ENLARGEMENT

Skopjde, Macedonia 2011 – 2013

The Remedika hospital in Skopje (Macedonia) is a private health facility that arises from the acquisition by Remedika company of a portion of a public hospital. The first renovation was made between 2004 and 2005. Remedika company, in 2011 decided to expand this hospital with the construction of new volumes, with an area increase of about 15,000 square meters. Fagnoni & Associates, together with with the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, has elaborated the functional scheme based on the analysis of data and needs, carried out together with the medical staff of Remedika Hospital. The project was born through the analysis of the dimensional and morphological constraints of the available areas, considering the fundamental connection between the existing structure and the new building. The project was developed following three guiding criteria:

1 The choice of a tri-partite layout for the hospital stays area, which ensures natural lighting and ventilation in all environments, considerable energy savings and minimum use of mechanical systems, giving the patients a view of the landscape and ensuring to staff a working time in natural conditions. The same attention in the search for natural lighting has been placed for resting and living areas, and the main paths;

2 Separation of diagnostic services and treatment from hospitalization spaces with identification of three macro areas a) Diagnosis and medical treatment – outpatient, b) Diagnosis and instrumental treatment, c) Diagnosis and surgical treatment.

3 Rationality of the routes, organized to clearly separate public paths and routes reserved for health workers and patients.
